Fraud Alert: E-Mail Scam Soliciting Funds on Behalf of The Carter Center
23 July 2008
A fraudulent e-mail scam has been launched by an organization posing as The Carter Center, inviting participation in--and sponsorship of--a "12th International Congress of NGO/CBO" on the topic of HIV-AIDS and Climate Initiatives for the 21st Century.
The message--which includes an official-looking logo with the Center's mailing address--lists the name of a contact in Togo, West Africa and encourages online registration of $350. Do not respond to this fraudulent e-mail. This event is non-existent, the e-mail did not originate with The Carter Center, and funds are not being solicited via Western Union or any other online means for such an event.
If you receive an e-mail from carterfoundation.usa@gmail.com, please forward immediately to The Carter Center at carterweb@emory.edu. Thank you.
